Acceptance
By installing or using GemReader, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, uninstall the app.
License
GemReader is provided free for personal, non-commercial use. You may not reverse-engineer, redistribute, or resell the app.
No warranty
GemReader is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind — express or implied. We make no guarantees about fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation, or error-free performance.
PIN responsibility — read carefully
Your PIN is yours alone. GemReader cannot recover it. PIN-folder keys are derived from your PIN using PBKDF2 and are not stored in recoverable form. If you forget your PIN, access to that folder and all its contents is permanently lost. After 3 incorrect attempts, the folder self-destructs: all encrypted files are deleted and keys are destroyed with no recovery path. This behavior is intentional and irreversible.
Data loss
We are not liable for data loss resulting from device failure, accidental deletion, forgotten PINs, factory resets, or any other cause. Encryption protects your data from unauthorized access — it does not protect against device loss or user error. Back up your EPUB source files independently.
EPUB ownership
You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to import and read any EPUB files you add to GemReader. GemReader does not verify copyright or licensing status of imported files. Do not import files you do not own or have permission to use.
Prohibited use
Do not use GemReader to store, distribute, or access material that is illegal in your jurisdiction. The encryption features are provided for legitimate personal privacy — not to facilitate illegal activity.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, GemReader's developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
