When you run into an unfamiliar word or a concept you need to memorize, switching apps breaks your concentration. Discover how GemReader integrates SRS flashcards and offline dictionaries directly into your reading flow.
The Scattered Desk
Picture a traditional study session: a heavy textbook open in the center, a thick dictionary propped up on the left, and a stack of blank index cards on the right. Every time you encounter a new concept, you must put down the book, break your concentration, and physically shift your attention.
In the digital world, switching between a reader, a dictionary app, and a flashcard app creates the exact same cognitive friction. Reading non-fiction, academic literature, or foreign language EPUBs requires active inquiry, but you shouldn't have to abandon your book to find answers.
GemReader solves this by bringing the seamless desk directly to you. We integrated Spaced Repetition System (SRS) deck generation, offline dictionary definitions, and in-book search directly into the floating Annotations Menu.
Flashcards Without the Friction
Spaced Repetition (using algorithms like SM-2) is one of the most effective ways to commit new concepts or foreign vocabulary to long-term memory. But manually copy-pasting text into third-party apps is tedious and often results in a highlight graveyard.
In GemReader, simply select any term, definition, or key takeaway and tap the Add to Deck Icon (SelectionDeckIcon) on the floating popup menu.
GemReader instantly packages the selection into an SRS study card, automatically populating the front and back fields with your text snippet and the chapter reference. It is saved directly into your local review queue (via SRSStorage.ts), ready for your daily study sessions on the built-in Review Page. No third-party apps or cloud syncing required!
Instant Dictionary Lookup
When encountering an unfamiliar word, curiosity shouldn't come at the cost of losing your place. Simply tap the word or select a phrase, then tap the Define Icon (SelectionDefineIcon).
Driven by our offline DictionaryService.ts engine, GemReader invokes an instant definition lookup. It displays word origins, phonetic pronunciations, and comprehensive definitions in a beautiful sheet—all without closing your current EPUB page or requiring an internet connection.
Tracing the Thread: In-Book Search
Curious where else a character, technical term, or key phrase appears in the current book? Highlight the phrase and tap the Search Icon (SelectionSearchIcon).
GemReader immediately opens the Search Drawer and executes a full-text search across all chapters of the EPUB. Results are displayed with snippet previews and chapter headings, allowing you to jump seamlessly between matching occurrences and back, perfectly tracking recurring themes.
Keep Your Focus Where It Belongs
